ATLANTA, GA  (April 27, 2022) – The Claflin University Lady Panthers track & field team got back into action in a big way when the team headed to Atlanta, Georgia to take part in the Georgia Tech Invitational. Competing against some of the top student-athletes in the nation, the Lady Panthers had some terrific performances at the meet.

The Lady Panthers set the tone for the day with some terrific performances on the track. Freshman Zoe Adams got things started when she placed ninth in the women’s 400m dash. She ran a 55.93 in the event The time was a provisional qualifying time for the 2022 NCAA Division II Women Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet. The time is also the best in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region. Sophomore Jonnica Fuller had a solid day as well when she ran a 12.67 in the women’s 100m dash. Freshman Madison McDonald added a 5:21.83 in the women’s 1500m run as well.

In the field events, the Lady Panthers continued to have a strong performance as well. Senior Zaria Nelson placed 18th in the women’s discus throw when she recorded a 124’6″ (37.95m) throw. She also recorded a 29’7.5″ (12.67m) throw in the women’s shot put.

The Lady Panthers will return to action next weekend when the team heads to Statesboro, Georgia to take part in the GS Spring Classic.
