CLEMSON, SC (Sept. 11, 2021) —Playing in front a roaring stadium of 78,609 Tiger fans, South Carolina State dropped their second-straight contest to ACC power No. 6 Clemson, 49-3, Saturday (Sept.11th) evening inside Memorial Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs put together a solid effort with the offensive line playing lights out not giving up a sack on the day. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Corey Fields, Jr. finished 10-of-24-1 for 132-yards.
Senior Will Vereen proven to be Fields, Jr. favorite target on the day finished with four (4) catches for 96-yards. Redshirt freshman running back Kendrell Flowers provided a steady effort on the ground with 11 carries for 53-yards.
Freshman kicker Dyson Roberts led the special teams with 11 punts for 449-yards with an average of 40.8 yards per punt and a long of 55-yards, three inside the 20 and two touchbacks. Dyson also provided the Bulldogs only score of the day connecting on a 27-yard field goal.
BJ Davis led the charge on defense with seven tackles, while Jalen Barr, Jaylen Evans, and Aaron Smith all posted five tackles, respectively.
All-American defensive back Decobie Durant was the spark on defense with two (2) interceptions against a high-powered Tiger offense. Durant also added three tackles and two pass breakups in the loss.
